Headway East Sussex says farewell to longstanding volunteers

Last week we said farewell to two of our very longstanding volunteers, Peter Vincent and Ann Green.

Ann has been with us from the very beginning and remembers when we provided services from a portacabin on the site! Ann’s daughter was at school with the daughter of one of our founding families who sustained a life-changing brain injury following a road traffic accident outside the school. Ann wanted to show her support to the family by helping out.

Peter has been volunteering with us for over 15 years and, as a well-respected and highly talented artist we really appreciate him giving up his time and sharing his amazing talent to help others.

For many years Peter and Ann have run the weekly pastels class which has been enjoyed by so many people. The therapeutic value of art is well evidenced and documented, but Peter and Ann both bring something more. They have such a calm and gentle approach which is so valuable to our clients who often have difficult and troubled lives following their brain injury. They create a friendly, warm and relaxed atmosphere which is so important, and they’ve often provided a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on. Again, this is really valuable to our clients, many of whom are very vulnerable and don’t have that opportunity elsewhere.

The clients, staff and trustees would like to say a HUGE thank you to Peter and Ann for all their support, loyalty and commitment. We’re delighted that they’ve promised to keep in touch with us and look forward to seeing them at some of our future events.
